You will forget all about that beautiful Venetian poker room, once you enter Vegas – just type in ‘Poker tournaments Las Vegas’ on Google and you will know for sure. The whole idea of WSOP first started in 1969 when an event known as Texas Gambling Reunion was organized – this invitation-only event was hosted by the Holiday Hotel and Casino., located in Reno.
While Crandell Addington won this event, it was Tom Moore from Castle Hills (Texas) who had actually sponsored the event. Later, this solo even evolved into the first roots of the WSOP as a brainchild of Benny Binion, a Poker player and casino owner in Vegas. So, in 1970, the first set of events was hosted at Binion’s Horseshoe.
These events comprised mostly cash events inclusive of Razz, Texas Hold ’em, Seven-Card Stud, Five-Card Stud, Seven Low-Ball Draw, and Deuce. Johnny Moss was the primary winner of 1970 and he went on to be elected as the very first ‘World Champion of Poker’ according to the votes of his peers – he even received a Silver Cup as a prize.
